I've got an invigorating summer recipe for you. You can mix it with\u00a0either sparkling or still water, use it as a cocktail base with gin or vodka or make a prosecco aperitif with it - ideal for summer parties and BBQs!<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>This syrup combines two indulgent seasonal favourites: strawberries and rhubarb. Not just pretty but a very healthy duo as well. The strawberry is also called the \"queen of the garden\". Strawberries contain a lot of water and therefore have very few calories. They pack a surprising amount of vitamin C, even more than citrus fruit. Strawberries contain potassium, which is essential for our muscles and nerves, and many minerals and antioxidants. In the summer, I feel like eating them every day, particularly in muesli or a cake.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/78.46.122.165\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/Erdbeer-Rhabarbersirup5.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-4914\" src=\"https:\/\/78.46.122.165\/content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/Erdbeer-Rhabarbersirup5-662x4951.jpg\" alt=\"Erdbeer-Rhabarbersirup5\" width=\"662\" height=\"495\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Even though rhubarb is really a vegetable, it's considered to be and used\u00a0like a fruit.\u00a0This time, I've made a syrup out of these tangy stalks. You have to enjoy rhubarb now, the season ends at the end of June. You can make some rhubarb compote or jam to stockpile it for the off-season\u00a0or\u00a0you could make this delicious syrup.<\/p>\n<p>I didn't know that rhubarb isn't really edible when raw. But as soon as you cook it, it spreads its wonderful aroma and tangy flavour, which is a great contrast to sweet dishes.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/78.46.122.165\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/Erdbeer-Rhabarbersirup2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-4898\" src=\"https:\/\/78.46.122.165\/content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/Erdbeer-Rhabarbersirup2-662x9931.jpg\" alt=\"Erdbeer-Rhabarbersirup2\" width=\"662\" height=\"993\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h3>Good to know!<\/h3>\n<p>Rhubarb doesn't just support our digestion and stimulates our appetite, it also has a detoxifying and purging effect on the body. It contains vitamins A, B1, B2, a ton of vitamin C as well as minerals - calcium, potassium, magnesium, phosphorus and iron.<\/p>\n<p>Only the stalks of the rhubarb are edible. Keep away from the leaves, they contain oxalic acid, which can lead to gastro-intestinal problems.<br \/>\nTo prepare, remove the leaves and wash the stalks.<\/p>\n<p>I have also recently started working with the magic machine that is the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/thermomix.vorwerk.at\/\">Thermomix<\/a>\u00a0and I absolutely love it. This food processor makes everything go three times as fast. If you're interested in it, subscribe to the newsletter here:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/thermomix.vorwerk.at\/thermomix-heute\/thermomix-newsletter\/\">Newsletter<\/a>\u00a0and get some amazing recipes for free.<\/p>\n<p>For non-Thermomix owners, I've also got an alternative recipe for this heavenly syrup.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/78.46.122.165\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/Erdbeer-Rhabarbersirup-ID95067-landscape-result.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-4901\" src=\"https:\/\/78.46.122.165\/content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/Erdbeer-Rhabarbersirup-ID95067-landscape-result-662x4411.jpg\" alt=\"Erdbeer-Rhabarbersirup_ID95067_landscape_result\" width=\"662\" height=\"441\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n[print_this]\n<h2>Thermomix Strawberry and Rhubarb Syrup<\/h2>\n<h3><strong>Thermomix recipe, enough for two\u00a0300ml bottles<\/strong><\/h3>\n<h3><strong>Ingredients:<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>500g\u00a0rhubarb, cut into pieces<\/p>\n<p>200g\u00a0strawberries, halved<\/p>\n<p>20g\u00a0fresh ginger, peeled<\/p>\n<p>250g\u00a0sugar<\/p>\n<p>1 TBSP\u00a0lemon juice<\/p>\n<p>300g\u00a0water<\/p>\n<p>mint for the garnish<\/p>\n<p><strong>Preparation:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>1.) Put rhubarb, strawberries, ginger, sugar and lemon juice in the Thermomix bowl and chop for 5 seconds on speed 5.<\/p>\n<p>2.) Add water, put the Thermomix cooking element on the lid instead of the measuring cup and cook the mixture at speed 1 for 20 minutes at 98\u00b0C.<\/p>\n<p>3.) Strain the rhubarb and strawberry syrup through a fine sieve, pour into bottles and seal\u00a0them properly.
